BOPP film labels

Biaxially-oriented polypropylene: the workhorse of the drinks and household aisle. Waterproof, tear-resistant, and it holds its shape around a curve without creasing.

Film

Use it when

  • Water, juice, soft drinks and bottled water
  • Wine, beer and canned beverages
  • Shampoo, body wash and household cleaning products
  • Anything chilled, wet or handled often

Look elsewhere if

  • Oily or solvent-heavy contents, where PET is more resistant
  • Long-term outdoor use — BOPP weathers but does not last indefinitely

How it behaves

Print detailVery good. Needs a corona treatment for strong ink adhesion
Water resistanceHigh — waterproof and condensation-resistant
ConformabilityExcellent. Follows a bottle contour without lifting at the edges
CostMid-range, and the reason it is our volume film
RecyclabilityPolypropylene is widely recycled, but only where the label does not contaminate the stream

Finishes that work on it

Hot foil, spot UV and matte lamination are all common. A full matte laminate is the usual way to kill the film gloss and get a premium read.

Where we run it

Questions about bopp film labels

BOPP or PET for a water bottle?

BOPP for most water and soft drinks — it is cheaper and conforms better. PET when the bottle holds something oily, or when the label will be scuffed hard in transit.

Will condensation lift the label?

No, if the adhesive is specified for a wet surface and the surface is clean and dry at the moment of application. Tell us it lives in a fridge.

Can it be die-cut to a complex shape?

Yes. BOPP cuts cleanly but has a tendency to snap in tight radii, so we adjust the corner radius on intricate shapes.
